Our NORWAFLOC® technology is scheduled to undergo piloting and full-scale qualification for sewage sludge treatment, serving a total population of 1,220,000 in Germany.
M Vest Water is delighted to announce a significant technological breakthrough in municipal wastewater treatment.
Over the past year, MVW has achieved successful development and documentation of two new methods utilizing our NORWAFLOC® products for dewatering municipal sewage sludge.
Method 1:
The municipal sector in Germany is currently facing a pronounced and officially recognized shortage of Ferric Chloride, which has escalated into a long-term crisis. MVW presents a cost-effective and innovative solution that will effectively resolve this crisis by eliminating the requirement for Ferric Chloride. Our technological breakthrough has demonstrated the ability of NORWAFLOC® to completely substitute the extensive use of Ferric Chloride with MVW's natural polymers in all sewage plants, where they through a lime/ferric sludge dewatering process use the end product as fertilizer on agricultural land.
MVW, in collaboration with German municipalities, shall execute pilot and full-scale qualification using this method in June, July, and August 2023 at two sewage treatment plants. These plants cater to populations of 50,000 and 600,000 individuals (p.e.) respectively. Contracts following the qualification phase are anticipated to be finalized in Q3.
The immediate target market comprises 10 similar plants, each designed for a capacity ranging from 600,000 to 1,200,000 p.e., exclusively located in Northern Germany.
Method 2:
Most sewage treatment plants currently use synthetic polyacrylamide polymers for sludge dewatering, followed by incineration of the sludge. However, MVW has successfully completed the development of a method that enables the replacement of 20 % of synthetic polymers with our NORWAFLOC® on a one-to-one basis. As a result, the discharged water exhibits significantly higher levels of cleanliness, while the dewatered sludge becomes substantially drier. This advancement translates to reduced weight and volume for transportation, decreased water content for incineration, and consequently, substantial cost savings for clients. Moreover, it contributes to significant energy savings and reductions in CO2 emissions, efforts that are well received by the German municipalities.
MVW, in collaboration with German municipalities, shall execute pilot and full-scale qualification using this method in June, July, and August 2023 at two sewage treatment plants. These plants cater to populations of 70,000 and 550,000 individuals (p.e.) respectively. Contracts following the qualification phase are anticipated to be finalized in Q3/Q4.
Municipal sewage represents a substantial market segment both in Germany and Europe. MVW is focusing on specific niches within this market in the near term, with estimated prospects of generating approximately 50 MNOK in annual recurring revenues.
This is a crucial milestone for MVW's establishment in Germany and Europe, as it demonstrates the compliance of our NORWAFLOC® product within the global 240 BUSD flocculant/coagulant market, of which the municipal sector accounts for more than 50 % of the consumption within this market.

M Vest Water has been awarded a contract for the treatment of PFAS contaminated water at Bergen Airport for Avinor.
Our NORWAPOL® technology will be applied for removal of PFAS in contaminated groundwater using a mobile water treatment plant that will be operated over a period of 2 months.
The handling and treatment of PFAS is a major challenge for many industries across the globe. For airports the foam used for fighting fires typically contains PFAS that can seep into the ground and contaminate the local soil and groundwater.
Through the main contractor, Løvaas Maskin AS, M Vest Water will begin treatment of the local soil in Q2 2023.
Atle Mundheim, CTO at M Vest Water, published an article on the challenges that PFAS pose in the March issue of H20 Global News last year.
This exciting project is a result of research and development at MVW's state-of-the-art laboratory in Bergen and is an excellent opportunity for proving NORWAPOL®’s efficacy in treating PFAS.
We thank Avinor and Løvaas Maskin AS for their trust and look forward to the next step in realizing our goal of zero-discharge to nature.
Today, we celebrate World Water Day and highlight the importance of clean water. This year’s theme is related to finding solutions to the global water and sanitation crisis and providing fresh, clean water for all. At M Vest Water we innovate every day to accelerate a green shift for industries within oil & gas, aquaculture, wastewater and dredging. Through our greener and more sustainable solutions for treating water, we contribute to making our rivers, lakes, oceans and groundwaters cleaner and free from harmful substances polluting the environment.
There is more than enough water in the world, but not enough clean water. The last decades have seen rapid environmental changes causing a shift which is becoming more and more evident; water is becoming a scarce resource in an increasing number of regions. The challenge is not only to handle our polluted waters in a better manner, but also to ensure responsible reuse of wastewaters from industry and agriculture.
M Vest Water is tackling this challenge head-on. Through our innovative technologies we are aiming to become a global leader, accelerating the development of new, green and disruptive water treatment solutions. We are committed to reducing the impact of polluted waste water and help provide clean and accessible water to the world.
Our technology’s contribution to the UN’s sustainability goals is significant. By providing industries that face challenges related to wastewater with a greener and more effective solution, we help make the world’s waters cleaner, whether it’s rivers, lakes, oceans or groundwaters.
At M Vest Water we are proud of being part of the solution for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

We are delighted to announce that M Vest Water has been awarded a contract for delivery of NORWAPOL®, providing a green and highly efficient solution for treatment and purification of the inlet water at Erko Settefisk AS’s RAS plant at Stord, Norway.
Erko Settefisk AS is a salmon hatchery and smoltification company that deliver over 5 million post-smolt per year, with a state-of-the-art RAS facility, located at Sagvåg, Stord (60 km south of Bergen).
The facility consists of 3 separate modules, with one module comprising the hatchery and thus requiring fresh water, and the other two modules comprising the smolt and post-smolt, using brackish water (salt water).
The intake water to the plant is surface water from a nearby lake. M Vest Water’s NORWAPOL® solution filters out organic and inorganic substances to extremely low levels, ensuring the very best living and growth conditions for the smolt. This is of high value to Erko and the industry in general. This is the first step in the water treatment cycle in a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS).
The second step of water treatment in a RAS plant is the conditioning of the water which is recirculated within the plant. This normally consists of very large water volumes and flows. NORWAPOL® has shown excellent results for this type of flow in removal of particles, nitrogen, and phosphorus. We are now in the process of preparing our technology for this water flow via a collaborative project with one of the major players in the salmon farming industry.
The third step is the purification of the discharge water. M Vest Water has with its NORWAFLOC® and NORWAPOL® technology achieved full removal of particles and phosphorus and furthermore significant reductions in nitrogen levels in the discharge water. These contaminants are major contributors to the pollution of the marine environment. M Vest Water's technology thereby contribute to the aquaculture industry's goal of ensuring a more sustainable production.
Last but not least, comes the handling of sludge which is separated from the water treatment steps mentioned above. This sludge contains a lot of water, and the solid content is of value for e.g., biogas raw material or fertilizer. The transport of water in this sludge is very costly and of no value. M Vest Water’s NORWAFLOC® ensures the very best dewatering enhancement when applied upstream of any kind of mechanical dewatering equipment. In this way M Vest Water strongly contributes to the circular economy and sustainable waste management handling.
M Vest Water is pleased to invite investors, analysts and other stakeholders to the presentation of our Q4 2022 results on Tuesday, 14 February 2023 at 10:00 AM CET. The event will be held on webcast and there will be a Q&A session after the presentation.
